Children of a Lesser God: Dominionism and Christian Nationalism Heresy Exposed, Part 3

The Myth of the Sanctity of America, Cont.

Myth of the Sanctity of America: America was Founded on Judeo-Christian Principles/Values

“…. the Judeo-Christian principles upon which this nation was founded”

Pastor Robert Jeffress

“Our government, instead of embracing the Judeo-Christian values that helped make our country great and blessed, now pursues, prosecutes and punishes believers who seek to live out their faith.”

Franklin Graham

What are exactly Judeo-Christian principles?  Theologically Judaism and Christianity are utterly incompatible although we both use the similar Old Testament and Talmud, we draw (or should draw) very different conclusions from it.  For Christians God gave the Jewish Law to point us to Christ and demonstrate the utter futility of trying to reach God on any of our own strength or merit.  The Law never stood as a path to God on its own like it does for Jews, for Christians it’s a path only to Christ who is the only person to have ever fulfilled the true law.

Could someone look up Judeo-Christian principles in the Bible please? Because mine fails to mention any…  and from a Christian perspective if Jewish principles could save you, then Christ died for nothing (Gal 2:21).   True Christian “principles” can be summed up in 7 words: “salvation is through faith in Christ alone” which any serious Jew would be completely repelled by.

Historically this is also absurd, as “Judaism IS Judaism because it rejects Christianity, and Christianity IS Christianity because it rejects Judaism.” (Rabbi Eliezer Berkovits, emphasis mine). Moses revealed the “law” but it’s crucial to understand the “law” he revealed was largely Ceremonial revolving around Temple function (which is not l relevant for Christians because Jesus is the true temple) and even the 10 Commandants are relational guidance, not a legal code or a prescription for governance.   Are we so ignorant the term “law” has completely different meanings in different applications?  The concept of a Jude-Christian principles is not a biblical one, it’s a Christ-less unspoken false morality to romanticize some mystical past, and paint a false but rosy world…  a world where Jesus didn’t have to die.

Additionally, almost 85% of Jews today support abortion (in fact, NO religious group is as pro-abortion as Jews are), so Judeo-Christian values ARE pro-abortion values.  (Why most Jews support abortion and use the Bible/Talmud to make their case is a great story for another time). But hey, why rock the boat? We will just ignore the facts and moral inconsistencies when they inconvenient by throwing out vague moral terms.   Even the word of so-called “Judeo-Christian principles” relegates the work of Christ at the Cross, prioritizes the Law over the Gospel, and reduces Jesus to an after-thought as if he just one step in larger (and legalistic) process, and not the defining moment of humanity or even today’s Christianity.

Myth of Sanctity of America: American and Society are in Rapid Moral Decline

“What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.”

Ecclesiastes 1:9

“Do not say, “Why were the old days better than these?” For it is not wise to ask such questions.”

Ecclesiastes 7:10

It easy to watch the news and believe the world is going to hell in hand basket, but is this a personal perception or biblical view?  History has been filled with moral ups and downs, time of peace and war, good leaders and bad, tyrants and murderers… and terrible sin of many kinds (see Ecclesiastes 3 for a list) but is it getting worse?  No.  Sin entered the world with the fall of Adam and Eve, and was proven when Cain killed Abel in cold blood over a bushel of grain. THIS  was the worse news report the world has ever seen.  The only thing that has truly changed is we are seeing these tragedies today in real time without the filter of time and secrecy.  The full damage that sin does when it entered the world through Adam is just beginning to dawn on us, but it’s always been there, and its always been horrible and devastating beyond our comprehension.  Since the Garden there has never truly been a good time for the world as we know it. The world has not changed, things are not getting worse, there was no “better time” this is a myth .  The only thing that has changed is our losing our childlike self-deceptive innocence, and the coming of Christ.   Here are some quotes by Dominionist leaders use to justify their “call-to-arms” by painting America in moral decay:

“Virtually every measure of social pathology continues to gain ground. Along with the wreckage of the family we are seeing record levels of depression and mental illness, dispirited young people, soaring suicide rates, increasing numbers of alienated young males, an increase in senseless violence and the deadly drug epidemic.”

William Barr, Attorney General

“Sadly, that same moral and spiritual framework, which has held our nation together for 243 years, is now unraveling so quickly that I fear for the future of our children and grandchildren. The America that I knew as a young boy growing up in the mountains of North Carolina has changed so radically.” Battle for the Soul of this Nation

Franklin Graham

No nation in history had a greater “moral and spiritual framework” than Israel at the time of Christ, and yet they murdered the only truly sinless man in history.  If a moral and spiritual framework could truly offer a solution to sin or to a people…. then Christ died for nothing.  Throughout history we’ve always held some nostalgia for when “times were better”, but biblicaly this is a myth, (Ecclesiastes 7:10 above).  The world hit “rock bottom” with Adam and Eve, there has never been a worse news report in all of history.  It’s just taken us a lifetime to realize all the damage sin and overcome our self-deceptive innocence.   The world has not changed, its not getting worse, but our perception has.

God allows sin in this world, and Satan to roam free for a short time because both support his goal of leading more people to Christ, and sanctifying his children to become more like Christ. The consequence of sin is often pain, and this pain will lead people to Christ. Without sin and its consequences, a vastly greater tragedy in this world would occur… we would miss on a relationship with Christ himself. With the coming of Christ, sin itself is no longer the world’s major or unsolvable issue, its the deception of believing we don’t need Christ and only Christ as the solution for sin. Sin and the pain it brings pushes to seek God and salvation through Jesus.

“We can ignore even pleasure. But pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.”  ― C.S. Lewis, The Problem of Pain

Although it can easily seem like things are “getting” worse if you’re not reading scripture, we must remember 2 things.  We only have one problem, and since Adam that problem is sin.  We also have only one solution, and that solution is Christ.  And we have assurance that everything Satan does in the long run serves to glorify Christ and serve God’s purpose.  If you really want do something about a fallen and sinful world, or the tragedy on the news, the decline of “morality”, share the Good News and Hope of Jesus Christ!  Any other response is inescapably heretical.

Fundamentally the role of the Church is not to stop sin… for it serves God’s purpose before Christ’s return. If we are following Christ, we are ministering in service to those who are sins many victims and not trying to correct their behavior outside of Christ and the Gospel. Christ never intended his church to be an isolated Country Club of moral and theological elites, but instead a front-line M*A*S*H unit for a dying and wounded world.

Any claim that the world, society or America is “getting worse” is to both deny the doctrine of original sin, and make a public claim that God is doing a piss poor job of running the world (Rom 13:1).  This also ties both Dominionism and Christian Nationalism to the heresy of Pelagianism. There truly is nothing new under the sun.

But this lie that society is in “moral” decline, goes on to serve the key Dominionist belief in the…
